2008 Kentucky Press Association
Journalism Boot Camp
Testimonials - from the 2007 KPA Journalism Boot Camp
The 2007 Journalism Boot Camp sponsored by the Kentucky Press Association was an excellent learning experience as well as a lot of fun. Although I'm not a journalist, I've always had an interest in writing. Attending the boot camp taught me that I do have the ability to write quickly and meet a deadline. Having "writer's block" was not an option. We wrote completed pieces daily but never felt pressured. Presentations each day prior to writing prepared us for the assignment. Boot Camp presented an opportunity to network with interesting speakers and fellow participants. I certainly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone interested in writing.
--Jean Yates, Louisville
The combination of the daily writing assignments, back-to-basics grammar and usage lessons, and thought-provoking guest speakers, challenged me to be a better writer.
The Boot Camp was a valuable opportunity to network with an interesting mix of journalists and someday-journalists from around the state.
Journalism Boot Camp gave me valuable tips on marketing myself as a writer.
--Jeff McDanald, Nicholasville
I really enjoyed the course. I found it very informative and inspiring. The speakers were all interesting and really added to the course material. It was very helpful to be able to ask them questions and to hear about how they got into journalism and moved up. I also found the daily writing exercises to be very useful. I never realized that I could write to a tight deadline until the end of day one!
Anyway, thank you again!
