KPA awards given out at banquet

LEXINGTON ­ General Excellence winners were announced in the Kentucky Press Association’s Advertising Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers Contest during an awards luncheon here on May 13.

The top winners were the Leitchfield Record, McLean County News, Springfield Sun, Jessamine Journal, Appalachian News Express, Madisonville Messenger, Henderson Gleaner, Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer and the Williamson Daily News.

Other newspapers honored included the Tri-City News, Fulton Leader, Cadiz Record, Laurel News Journal, Tompkinsville News, Pulaski News Journal, Cynthiana Democrat, Kentucky Standard, Morehead News, Corbin Times Tribune, Murray Ledger & Times, Advocate Messenger in Danville, Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville, Lexington Herald Leader, Louisville Courier Journal, Ft. Campbell Courier and the University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Kernel.

The Virginia Press Association judged the competition on March 5, 2004. In all, 61 Kentucky newspapers entered the contest with 2,647 entries.
