KHAJA convention gets record attendance
More than 785 students attended the Kentucky High School Journalism Association’s annual statewide convention on May 1 in Louisville. More than 850 attended the convention’s awards luncheon. That makes the 2002 KHSJA convention the largest ever.
More than 30 journalists made presentations to students. The results of the popular KHSJA contest were announced at a noon luncheon. David Hawpe, vice president and editorial page editor of The Courier-Journal, was the keynote speaker.
This year’s journalism contest saw an increase in entries from last year’s 1,500 to more than 2,080 this year.
KHSJA was founded in 1997 and is jointly sponsored by the Kentucky Press Association and the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. It is administered by the KPA member services director.
A story and photos from the convention will appear in the June issue of The Kentucky Press.
