Standards of Acceptance

1. Kentucky Press reserves the right to edit all copy submitted and reject that which is not in compliance with state and federal regulations or appears to be false, misleading, fraudulent, libelous, defamatory, in poor taste, in objectionable format, or for other good cause.

2. Individual newspapers reserve the right to properly classify, edit or reject advertising according to federal, state and local regulations and policies.

3. Blind box ads will not be accepted.

4. Commercial advertising must indicate that the advertisement was placed by a firm or an individual engaged in a commercial enterprise. This will be done by using the firm name or the word “broker” or “agent” or some other suitable term.

5. Credit Cards and Credit Repair: Ads for credit cards or ads claiming bad credit repair/fix bad credit or similar programs shall not be accepted.

6. All ads involving debt consolidations, money to lend, etc. must have a Kentucky business license.

7. Business Opportunity and investment advertising must indicate the type of business to be invested in, and the amount to be invested. All franchise offerings must be registered with the Kentucky State Office of Consumer Protection. We must have a letter stating they have registered with the Attorney General’s office.

8. Earnings claims must be based on fact, and a statement of such claims must be available upon request. Statements of gross sales or net earnings are limited to those of the last accounting period.

9. Sales help wanted advertising must state the type of product to be sold and must not offer or appear to offer work on a salary basis when compensation is on a commission or bonus basis. When based on commission, no statement or implication of the amount that may be earned is acceptable unless it is a guaranteed wage and is followed by the word “guaranteed.”

10. Employment advertising must be for a bonafide job offering and must state the nature of the work offered. No overseas employment is accepted.

11. Advertising for weight control, appetite suppressants, and other “substances” MUST have FDA approval.

12. Advertising for work at home projects will not be accepted.

13. All ads pertaining to adoption must be approved by the Kentucky Human Resources Cabinet.

14. Real estate for sale advertising must comply with “Truth in Lending” guidelines when offering specific financing terms. Refer to Regulation Z of the Federal Act when became effective July, 1969.

15. Advertisements that offer employment through listing publications shall not be accepted.

16. Advertisements for other listing publications, such as government seized vehicles, real estate and other surplus property shall not be accepted.

17. Advertising will be rejected if it is known or determined to discriminate based on age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex or marital status, except where legal restrictions prevail. These exceptions must be followed by the word “law.” Examples include help wanted ads for police and firefighters or housing ads for the elderly where government funding restricts eligibility by age.

18. No 1-900 phone numbers will be accepted.

19. No date-line, psychic, sport or like ads accepted.
