This story puts a face on the issue of homelessness and focues on a single, pressing issue. Very clear writing. Nice to see subjects treated with respect and dignity.

Honorable Mention - Adair County Community Voice, Sharon Burton
Good personalization of an event. Explains thw “why” the Relay is important.

First Place - Sunday Challenger, Vicki Prichard
A beautiful story of friendships beautifully told. The impending death of one of the group makes it even more poignant, but even without that element, it would be a special story of male friendship.

Second Place - Sunday Challenger, Lew Moores
Not every reporter would be so lucky to have a “Rabitt Hash” in his or her community, but then not every reporter would do this story such credit either. A fun, engaging story that just leaves the reader grinning.

Third Place - Sunday Challenger, Jason Feldman
A solid, well-written feature story about the reality of a drug addict. I especially like that the success of his recovery is not assumed, by either the subject or the writer.

Honorable Mention - Ft. Campbell Courier, Kristen Marquez
Good job of capturing the thoughts and attitude of Forbess. I felt the story ran a bit long, but overall a good job.

Honorable Mention - Sunday Challenger, Tricia Suit
A really good lede to this story, grabs the reader, keeps going. Very nicely done.

These columns leave the reader with a nice, warm fuzzy feeling. Well-written and as comfortable as a cozy quilt.

Very personable columns with a tendency to run a bit long. Nice tribute to the author’s father. Not often that you think about the father of girls and their relationship.

Another good example by Feldman and the Sunday Challenger of how stories can be more complex than a simple “who, what, where” report.

Well done coverage of a couple’s emotional issue. I liked the explanation of the snowball effect, the tough on crime laws and the federally funded cops program has had on jails. Good job.

Second Place - Sunday Challenger, Larry Nager
Interesting story. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! It would also be interesting to know if other Hispanics in the community perceive a racist attitude among police officers, and what the city does to reach out to that segment of the population.

Third Place - Sunday Challenger, Jason Feldman
Separating criminal activity in a smaller community can be very hard. Good job here raising the issues and questions without telling the reader what to think.
