Strong lead graph gets readers into meat of the debate. Good use of facts and figures. I love the inset box that summraizes the issue for readers. This editorial does more than just bitch, it offers a solution.

Third Place - Princeton Times Leader, Chip Hutcheson
Good organization, good use of facts. I like the box showing TVA’s rating history.The action that’s needed is implies, but not stated. Don’t be afraid to tell the bad guys what needs to be done.

Excellent coverage of downtown fire illustrated by numerous fire photos.

Same as above only tornado. Fine story with important information about emergency services.

Third Place - Sentinel-News, Carl Keith Greene
Witty, well written piece about stolen mascot from restaurant. Light-hearted which shows writer worked to make the story work.

Very nice opening with the repeated attributes of Olive; went on just the right length. Then the story unfolded clearly and cleanly.

Second Place - Shepherdsville Pioneer News, Mallory Bowman
Good investigative/enterprise work with the police calls to the home. Worked the public safety angle well; but story was nicely balanced from the home’s side.

Third Place - London Sentinel Echo, Allison Altizer
A heart-rendering story with most of the elements there.

A simple yet complicated story of a 65-year-old man whose heart aches from the loneliness of loosing his mom. Powerful!

“Ghost Hunters” as an interesting read. Tough not to like this story.

Third Place - London Sentinel Echo, Tara Kaprowy
The life of a meth addict at 22 takes on a journey that few can imagine.

Her writing style is very natural and easy for most readers to relate. All three columns were good reads.

“Views from the Sidelines” makes Shelby County the spotlight of his columns.

Nelson’s story about a horse trainer/co-owner took readers into the sport without the mundane aspects.

Nice lead. Good story about a heart-breaking basketball loss.

Third Place - London Sentinel Echo, Denis House
The lead drew me right into the story and the rest of the story kept me wanting more.

Great, great story on past javelin thrower. From tragedy in his life to getting bumped twice from Sports Illustrated cover, this story was tops.

Feature story on a senior football player that has endured personal tragedy and still able to go on. Very humbling.

Interesting story on a local woman boxer.
