From history of the 1800s to the continuing tradition of the county fair, interning at the Tompkinsville News allowed me to be a small part of a wide variety of experiences this summer.
Completing my freshman and sophomore years at Western Kentucky University this spring, I expanded my knowledge base from just simply taking photographs to producing multimedia projects – a talent I was able to employ at the Tompkinsville News.
In addition to taking still photographs, I was able to produce short programs for the newspaper to feature on their website from the history of the Bushong Community, where I was raised, to complete coverage of the local county fair.
As I return to WKU this fall, I look forward to continuing to assist the Tompkinsville News in expanding their website and offering their subscribers more multimedia projects, as well as continuing to assist with the photography for their weekly editions.
Thank you KPA for this experience – it truly made me realize that journalism is where my heart is and inspired me to continue my journey down this road I’m traveling.
