I was very excited to be accepted for this internship position in late Spring 2015. Just having graduated Western Kentucky University I was blessed to be at an internship that was close to home (Louisville, Ky.) and one that was based in such a beautiful and historic small town such as Bardstown, Ky. All right before my next adventure which would most likely be far away from home. (I will be interning at the Lincoln Journal Star in Lincoln, Nebraska for six months come August)
The staff here is wonderful to work with and welcomed me from day one. Having never had a full-time photographer here at the paper I think the reporters were glad to hand off that responsibility to someone who enjoyed that aspect of the job.
Working at the Kentucky Standard has been a good contrast from my previous work experience. Not only was I taking photographs for the paper but I was also shooting for many of the Standard’s other publications. Such as the Premier Tourism Magazine, our Health Guide, and the Best Of Nelson County Special Section. Shooting for the tourism magazine has allowed me to explore a gorgeous part of our state in Nelson County and given me the chance to dive into it’s rich history. From popular attractions such as Jim Beam Stillhouse, My Old Kentucky Home, and Wickland Mansion to religious sites such as the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani this internship has given me a wide breadth of experiences that I won’t soon forget.
