Description:

The News Standard has an immediate opening for a staff writer who is willing to learn, work and further his or her experience by joining a tight-knit newspaper staff whose sole objective is to provide fair and justified news coverage in our rural but economically developing community.

Our new writer must be willing to chip in at all levels of the newspaper industry: From writing stories to toning photos to proofreading content and eventually designing pages. College graduates, here’s your chance to broaden your skills and develop outstanding experience. Some stories, such as monthly meetings, will be assigned; other story ideas will need to be self-generated and can entail a wide variety of topics.

The News Standard is a weekly paper that prides itself on in-depth reporting, polished writing, artistic photography, and crisp design. We have high standards, but work as a family in a lighthearted — yet dedicated — atmosphere to produce the best product we can each week.

Meade County sits right along the beautiful Ohio River. In 10 minutes you’re in Indiana, in 45 minutes you’re in Louisville, in 15 minutes you’re at Fort Knox. Though the community is heavily agricultural, the current expansion of Fort Knox is expected to bring thousands of new soldiers and government employees and their families to our area. It’s an interesting and engaging time to live in Meade County, as the traditional farming community is about to collide with technology-savvy young families from across the country.

Competitive pay, benefits offered after 90 days. Send a resume, references and some of your best clips (hard copies or CDs) to Laura Saylor, Editor, The News Standard, 1065 Old Ekron Road, Brandenburg, KY 40108. Or, submit your work via e-mail to editor@thenewsstandard.com.
