Work Experience

2006 — 2008 Full-time Sports Editor for The Princeton Daily Clarion, Princeton Indiana. The Daily Clarion, a five-day a week a.m. publication (6500 circulation) covering three high schools, one college and other local sports on a variety of levels. Duties include writing articles, including game coverage, features, page design and layout in Quark and editing for two to three pages daily, along with taking and processing photos in Photoshop, and creating three sports tabs a year.

2005 – 2006 – Fulltime Sports Editor for Hendricks County Flyer/Westside Flyer, Avon, Indiana. The Hendricks County Flyer (twice weekly 35,000 circulation) and Westside Flyer (weekly), covered six high schools and other local sports on a variety of levels. Duties include writing, including game coverage, features, page design and layout in Quark for up to four pages each edition. Oversee staff of four stringers. Occasionally created original artwork for articles. Also created three sports tabs a year.

2003 – 2005 - Fulltime Sports Editor for Rochester Sentinel, Rochester IN, (5000 circulation p.m. daily five days a week and a.m. Saturday) covering seven high schools and other local sports. Wrote articles, including game coverage, features and columns, along with page design and layout for three pages. Took sports photos and created artwork for articles. Also created four sports tabs a year.

1999-2003 – Fulltime Sports Editor for Albion New Era, Churubusco News, Northwest News, three weekly newspapers covering three high schools and the surrounding area. Wrote articles, including game coverage, features and columns, along with layout and design of pages and sports photography

1994-1999 – Fulltime Sportswriter/Associate Sports Editor for The News-Sun of Kendallville, IN. (8,000 circulation p.m. daily and Saturday a.m.) Wrote articles, took photos, assisted in layout. Created original artwork for articles, along with editorial cartoons. Assisted on two sports tabs.

1992-1994 – Fulltime reporter/bureau head for Wayne Wilson News Leader, Fremont, NC. Wrote articles, supplied original artwork for articles and assisted with layout. Created two sports tabs and one festival tab a year, including writing and photography.

1991-1992 – Part-time reporter The News-Sun of Kendallville, covering sports, taking photos, reporting hard news, along with writing for special sections, and creating editorial cartoons and original artwork and graphics for ads.

1990-1991 – Full time reporter for daily Post & Mail of Columbia City, IN, covering hard news, board meetings, special features and some sports. Created original graphics for articles.

1986-1990 – Stringer for daily Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette and Fort Wayne News-Sentinel. Covered area board meetings, police and fire, other breaking news and some sports.

Miscellaneous

Won 2000 Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Media Award and four Hoosier State Press Association honors including two firsts. Covered the 2004 and 2001 Indiana-Kentucky All-Star basketball games, 2001 and 2000 Indiana North- South All-Star Football games, 2006, 2007, 2002 and 2001 IHSAA boys and girls track finals, 2001 IHSAA cross country finals, 1997 IHSAA boys golf finals and 1988 NCAA Volleyball Final Four.
