Landmark Community Newspapers, a community newspaper company headquartered in Shelbyville, Ky., with 51 paid newspapers in 12 states, is seeking a part-time editor/reporter at-large. The editor/reporter at-large is responsible for covering any newsroom job at any LCN newspaper in cases of emergency or other staffing shortages. Assignments occur on an as-needed basis and will fall primarily, but not exclusively, at smaller papers with small staffs, and could be in any job, including the editors. The editor/reporter at-large may stay at a single property for a period of days, weeks or even months, depending on the need. This is an exempt position that reports directly to LCN Editorial Director who will determine work schedule and location week to week.

Essential Functions:
• Handle layout and pagination.

• Write news, features and sports articles.

• Take photographs.

• Supervise the work of other editorial employees when filling in for an editor.

• Develop story ideas and reporting strategies.

• Quickly adapt to new equipment, co-workers and community figures.

• Travel frequently for open-ended periods.

• Three to five years experience in news; experience at a weekly newspaper is preferred

• Strong pagination and copy editing skills; proficient in InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word

• Excellent news judgment

• Ability to handle a variety of duties under deadline pressure

• Good organization and time-management skills

• Ability to work well either independently or with limited support and supervision

• Must have a valid drivers license and vehicle for travel to assignments
