The Grant County News, a weekly newspaper in Williamstown, Ky., has an opening for a full-time reporter. The reporter is responsible for photography and writing for the weekly newspaper and special sections. The publication serves Grant County, where the newly opened Ark Encounter is located. Williamstown is located along I-75 in a relatively rural area of northern Kentucky, 35 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio.   • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience in the journalism profession
  • Strong vocabulary, spelling, grammar and writing skills
  • Knowledge of digital photography, downloading photos, using Photoshop, Microsoft Word and InDesign is helpful
  • High volume production of quality news content is essential
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure
  • Knowledge and interest in the Internet and new media
  • Proven team-oriented behavior with the desire and ability to assist other teammates and work processes where necessary to accomplish the goals of the newspaper
  • Be available for some night news beat coverage and be able to rotate weekend assignments with other writers
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license

Essential Functions:

  • Cover assigned beats and breaking news with timely stories and photos
  • Take initiative to pursue news/feature/photo opportunities
  • Contribute stories and photos for special sections of the paper
  • Meet established deadlines of the newspaper
  • Function effectively as a member of a news team

This position reports to the Editor. This is a 40-hour-a-week hourly position. Some weekends and nights are required.
