The State Journal, a six-day daily newspaper in Kentucky’s capital city, is looking for a reporter to cover local news and features.

A short drive from Kentucky ’ s two largest cities - Lexington and Louisville - Frankfort is perfectly situated in the state’s Bluegrass region. Frankfort is in the heart of bourbon, horse and wine country. The Kentucky River cuts a path through the center of the city.

We are seeking a reporter with a solid work ethic, sound news judgment and a desire to produce top-notch journalism. The position will primarily focus on local news, with the occasional chance to write about state government issues, too.

The reporter will be asked to take photos for stories and contribute content to affiliated publications, including our recently redesigned, monthly magazine named FRANK. A person who can work independently, with great organizational and time-management skills will flourish in this position.

The ideal candidate would possess a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, knowledge of AP style, experience using Wordpress, photography skills and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, including inDesign and Photoshop.

The State Journal offers a competitive salary and benefits. We are an equal opportunity employer, offering our employees a chance to flourish and a team atmosphere that thrives on journalistic excellence.

Interested candidates should email materials - a resume, cover letter and three to five examples of your best work - to Managing Editor Josh Bergeron at
