The Mountain Advocate, Knox County’s News Source Since 1904, an award-winning community newspaper, is seeking an experienced and talented journalist to join its ranks.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism, or 3-5 years minimum experience. A combination of journalism education and experience will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
The candidate should be proficient in proper grammar, Associated Press style writing and exhibit an eye for interesting, impactful photos and video.

The position is full-time. The position is based solely in Knox County, Kentucky with minor travel to nearby counties as needed and when appropriate and relevant to Knox County.
In addition to regular news coverage, the journalist will help to cover and coordinate freelance coverage of area school athletics events.
Other useful skills include:
Basis knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
Knowledge of use and care for DSLR cameras and lenses
The position will require helping with newspaper delivery, therefore a clean driving record is mandatory.
Availability to work a regular schedule of 8 am – 4:30 pm, with adjustments made to accommodate evening meetings and events is required, as well as flexibility to be available on-call most weekends for emergency coverage and some scheduled coverage.
Pay is commensurate with experience and education. In addition to salary, full benefits including medical and retirement are offered.
Candidate should live within moderate driving distance of Barbourville, by a half hour or shorter commute or be willing to relocate. If available, Mountain Advocate Media has some apartments available for consideration (if a vacancy is available).
